WE APPRECIATE YOU!

HMMMM…HOW DO WE THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS WORK POSSIBLE AND ENCOURAGE YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT?

Do you dream of Africa?

DSCF9143_BW

As you know, we have an important fundraising campaign going on this year.  We have been inspired by your support.  We wanted a way to say ‘thank you’ and to keep the momentum of generosity going.  What better way than to offer a first-hand look at the work that Lalmba does, from the comforts of Hugh and Marty’s ‘home away from home’ in Nyagaribe, Kenya??

Sound enchanting? We would like to offer 1 lucky winner a round-trip flight to Kenya, and a bumpy 4 hour ride from the Kisumu airport for 1 week at this little lakeside paradise.

“3 grass-roof “rondavels” (1 bedroom with flush toilet and running water, 1 kitchen with gas stove and a solar-powered refrigerator, 1 guest room with outhouse). We will have a small staff to help with cooking and transportation.”

If you’re the lucky winner and would like to schedule your trip to coincide with a trip by Jeff and Hillary, we could travel together.

Think of this as a (rugged) chance of a lifetime.  It is not an easy journey, long flights and bumpy roads and primitive accommodations, but it would appeal to the Lewis and Clark in you!  Some limitations apply; those who enter the drawing will receive further guidelines by e-mail.

The drawing will be held on June 1.

To enter, just send us an email saying you would like to be entered, or if you are making a donation via Colorado Gives write “enter my name in the Kenya drawing” in the special instructions field.

Donations to make our crucial fundraising goal are appreciated (but not required).

We could not be doing this work without you!

May the luckiest world traveler win!!

See that chair? Now, close your eyes and imagine sitting there, the sunset, a breeze off the lake, a cool Tusker beer in hand . . . and a cheeky monkey stealing your fruit because you left the front door open!

Campaign Update

We are grateful to report that we are almost 40% there.  We have raised $75,000, with the goal of $200,000 by July 1, in order to maintain projects.

We are not flashy, we do not follow the most recent disasters and news-making trends—and we believe our quiet, committed way is more effective.

In Africa when we visit our projects we often hear, “Lalmba is my mother and father,”  “Lalmba saved my life,” and “Lalmba is my heart.”   Today we pause to contemplate the only way those words are possible: our supporters.  You are a continent away, in a place of material wealth, and you share your generosity and compassion for the desperately poor in this world.

In this issue, we want to highlight the efforts of only a few of you, and offer the trip of a lifetime as our way to say THANK YOU.

One lovely couple, Mike and Nancy Dennis in Oklahoma, were featured in their local paper in September

Mike spent a few months with Hugh and Marty in Eritrea almost 50 years ago.  And he has never seen the world the same.

“I was fascinated with Africa from childhood and always wanted to go there…Would that everyone, especially when they are young, have the opportunity to visit the poor of the world…  It was a life-changing experience that I couldn’t shake and that has stayed with me all these years since. Jesus teaches that giving is the sweetest of all human experiences, that it fills the giver with joy and peace that passes all understanding…There are many people and organizations throughout the world dedicated to the “front line,” doing the real Kingdom of God work under extreme conditions and never enough money, but Lalmba will always be at the top of our support list.”

Thank you, Mike and Nancy, for your dedication to supporting Africa’s poor, and for all of you who act as ambassadors for Lalmba’s work in your own communities.

lalmba

People often tell us that Lalmba’s annual Christmas gifts serve as valuable reminders of their friends in Africa whom they support.

John and Margie Conway in Denver keep a “Lalmba shrine” where they display the Christmas items they have collected over the years.  Every time they look at them, they remember what their donations to Lalmba really do—link them irrevocably to their brothers and sisters across the ocean who suffer.

Thank you, John and Margie, and all you who honor Lalmba’s works of charity, keeping the mission in your hearts (and on your mantels!).
