Overview

Lalmba Association is a small nonprofit with a big heart, committed to bringing hope and healing to remote and underserved communities in Kenya and Ethiopia through our 3 pillar programs: Medical Care, At-Risk, and Empowerment. We provide essential healthcare, protect vulnerable children and elders, and empower communities to rise out of poverty through education, empowerment, and economic opportunity.

As the Director of Development, you will play a critical role in helping us share our stories of hope with the world. Your primary focus will be on securing new major gifts and grants to sustain and grow the organization. You will also have the chance to travel to our projects in Africa, where you can see firsthand the impact of Lalmba’s mission and build personal connections with the people we serve.

If you’re looking for more than just a job — if you’re driven by a desire to make a real, lasting difference — this is the place for you. Join our small, dedicated team, where relationships matter and every effort counts toward building self-sustaining communities and brighter futures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Major Gifts Fundraising: Build meaningful relationships with potential donors, focusing on those who can make significant contributions. Your primary task will be to expand our major gifts program, both by identifying new prospects and deepening connections with existing donors and traveling annually with major donors to our locations.
  • Grant Writing: Develop and submit grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government entities. Your goal will be to secure new sources of funding to help sustain and grow Lalmba’s work in Africa.
  • New Fundraising Initiatives: Lead efforts to diversify our funding, including launching initiatives such as corporate sponsorships, planned giving programs, and recurring donations. You will be exploring creative ways to expand Lalmba’s financial support.
  • Financial Target: The Director of Development is expected to raise at least an additional three hundred thousand annually through new major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and grants, ensuring financial growth to support Lalmba’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with a proven record of securing major gifts and successful grant applications. Familiarity with African-focused nonprofit work is a requirement.
  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong donor relationships and creatively engage high-net-worth individuals.
  • Cultural Fit: A deep commitment to Lalmba’s mission of empowering vulnerable communities. You should be adaptable, resourceful, and passionate about working in a small but impactful organization.

Strategic Vision:

At Lalmba, we believe in long-term, sustainable growth, helping local communities move from dependency to self-sufficiency.

As Director of Development, you’ll play a critical role in building the financial foundation for this vision, contributing to the creation of sustainable programs that endure long after our direct involvement.
