Lalmba assists over 1,000 destitute children with no other means of support. Because of extreme poverty, many destitute or orphaned children must work to survive, eliminating any chance at schooling. Lalmba ensures them an education, the only way to arm them for a better future. We supply school fees, basic food staples and clothing, school supplies and complete medical care, supplementing the household for those living with a grandparent, other family member, or guardian. The child must remain in school in order to continue in our program. For those children who truly have no one, Lalmba runs a small children’s home in both Kenya and Ethiopia to parent those children in the most desperate situations.
We have a special love for children, whom we see not as a burden, but as part of a brilliant future for Africa.
Our Reaching Children At Risk (RCAR) program supports over 1,000 children and is deeply rooted in community engagement. Because of HIV/AIDS, about 90% of these children are in Kenya. With the help of local advisory committees and community leaders, Lalmba staff interview and select families to ensure our aid reaches those most in need.
In Ethiopia, where the situations are often more dire, our RCAR teams reach out to some of the most remote communities and individual homes to ensure their children are cared for and attending school. This community-driven approach not only fosters local empowerment but also ensures the sustainable impact of our efforts.
Lalmba runs two homes for orphaned children. These homes, operating in close collaboration with local governments, are regularly audited and highly regarded within their communities. They provide a critical and life saving response to the most desperate situations, ensuring children who have nowhere else to turn find a place of love, support, and opportunity. What’s more, in these homes the children have a supportive, loving environment that allows them the opportunity to be children with a bright future.
Our largest home, the Ongoro Children’s Home, is located near the Matoso Clinic in Kenya. Located right on the shores of Lake Victoria, this home provides complete care for up to 40 of the most desperate orphans.
In Ethiopia, the Chiri Children’s Home provides full time care for 15 – 20 orphans. Because of the extreme challenges faced in this remote area, the local government relies heavily on Lalmba’s services to care for orphaned children.
In partnership with Lalmba Canada for funding, Lalmba offers educational opportunities to exceptional children who lack access to higher education beyond grade 8. Administered by Lalmba staff, these scholarships support secondary and occasional university students each year, reinforcing our commitment to unlocking potential and transforming futures through education.
